When I got home that day, I had the
unbearable task of showing my report card to my parents and telling them about
detention. Things did not go well.
“Your father and I are very
disappointed in you David.”
“I’m sorry.” I said.
“You got a D in Algebra, AND you
got detention!” My mom said.
“Algebra is hard! Besides, who uses
that in real life anyway.” I said.
“It’s a requirement in order for
you to graduate. Tell him how important it is Tom.”
“It’s important son, just gotta you
know, suck it up and do it.” My dad chimed in.
“You can forget your weekend
plans—you are grounded!”
“But mom!”
“Nope! Unless you are working, no
going out. Not with your friends, not with Jenny.”
“I’m sorry.” I said.
So now I was screwed! I was
grounded for the weekend because of one bad grade and one detention, the first,
mind you, that I ever got. My weekend plans were all messed up now. The plan
was to say that I was sleeping over at Jason’s house and then we’d both go down
to Medusas. Jenny was going out by her cousin’s house in Palatine, so she wasn’t
going to be around and I could enjoy Medusa’s with my friends for a change
instead of hers. A bit later, Jenny called and my Mom let us talk briefly when
I told her what happened.
“That like totally blows. Jenny
said.
“So, I guess I’ll have to study
harder for something that I will literally never ever use in my life.” I
exclaimed.
“Just get on there good side again so you won't stay grounded." She said.
“Love you.”
“Love you, too.”
“Bye.”
