Bump

Rusty and I left Medusas. We were driving down Belmont on our way home. It was around one in the morning and we were blasting The Dead Kennedy's in his car. The windows were open and we caught looks from people driving past us.

“What’s up with all those CLAS fuckers?” I said.

“They came up with Bridget.” Rusty said.

“They’re always looking for a fight.” I said.

“That’s them. So what? I got Bridget’s number.” Rusty said.

“Just be careful.” I said.

“Quit trying to be my dad or something!” He reacted.

“Oh really? Watching out for your ass is not acting like your dad.” I said.

“It worse enough Diane keeps hassling me about Terror. All I wanna do is go Medusas and party.” Rusty said.

“Party? “ I said when I noticed a bit of white powder by his nose. He noticed I was staring at him and wiped his nose.

“Yeah, party. What, you’re going to get me on doing a little bump here and there?” Rusty said.

“Why are you even messing with that shit?” I asked.

“It gets me going for the pit. It’s not like I’m a druggie or something.” Rusty said.

As we finally rolled around back in the neighborhood around midnight, we saw flashing lights by Rusty’s house. I saw the dread grow on his face as he saw the lights were in front of his house.

“What the fuck’s going on?” Rusty said.

We got out of the car and we saw the cops talking to his dad. I saw his mom in the kitchen window holding an ice pack on her face. The neighbors were all out watching the scene unfold.

“Sorry about the noise officers. Me and the wife got into an argument.”

“Why is your wife with a ice pack by her face?” The officer asked.

“She was arguing with me about something and in the process she tripped and fell.”

“M’aam, would you like to press charges against your husband for battery?”

“No. It’s all a misunderstanding, officer. The neighbors are a little nosey.” His mom exclaimed.

After watching Rusty’s mom lie to the cops, I saw his face reddened to the point of tears.

“I can’t be there tonight.” Rusty said.

“You can sleep over by my house. My folks won’t care.” I said.

“Thanks.” He said.

As we drove off, we saw Rusty’s mom watching him drive off. His dad just walked belligerently back into the house. These incidents were happening more often and Rusty was growing weary of them. He can put up a bit more of a fight but not his mom. I knew his anger and the Cocaine combined would trigger him if he stepped into that house. I could see why he wanted to get out of there.
