Ditch

After Jenny stormed out, I realized that I already ditched and I didn't want to blow a Friday off. So, since I was already being bad, I might as well enjoy it! I hopped the Addison bus to go east. I was going the same way to school, but I had other things in mind. I was heading toward Belmont and Clark.

I didn’t get down there until around noon. The area looked quiet. I decided to walk into Voltaire and get some coffee. When I got inside, I heard a familiar voice.

“What are you doing here during a school day, my fine friend?” Darren said.

“Shouldn't you be in school as well?” I said.

“Fuck it, it's a nice day. Please, join me.” Darren said.

“Sure.” I said grabbing my coffee and a croissant.

“Being a naughty boy today?” Darren suggested.

“I was earlier. Jenny and I planned to both ditch school to fool around, but we got into a stupid fight afterward.” I said.

“She would ruin something like that!” Darren laughed.

“So I decided to come hang out down here.” I said.

“I'm telling you David,, that girl has a whole bunch of issues. Believe it when I say it. You can learn things from a gay boy like me.” He said.

“Learn?” I said.

“No, I don't mean like that. Unless you, of course, would want that?” Darren smirked.

“Not particularly.” I said.

“Jenny is conceited. I hope you're not blaming yourself for anything?” Darren said.

“I don't know. But, she's gone to school, and I'm down here.” I said.

“Wait-- Gone to school?” Darren said pointing out the window.

Just then, I saw Jenny get out of her car with April and Charlotte and started walking toward the Alley.

“That bitch!” I said.

“I told you, David.” Darren said.

“Well, you know what, fuck her!” I said sipping my coffee.
