Liars

Yeah. Everything was not ‘fine’.  I sure as hell wasn’t going to tell my mother about my misadventures the night before when I was supposed to be at work. I spent the next hour playing Disintegration when I got called to dinner. After dinner, I went right back for a another listen. A short time later, the phone rang. I knew who it was.

“David, Jenny’s on the phone!” She yelled from the bottom of the stairs.

I walked over to the phone in the other room and after I took a deep breath, answered.

“Hey, what’s up?” I said trying to sound cheerful.

“What’s up sexy. You’ve been studying like a good little boy?” She said jokingly.

“Yup. I’ve been studying. All weekend. Except for being called to work.” I added.

“It’s too bad you got grounded. Are you still grounded?” She said.

“No. Not anymore. How was Palatine?” I asked.

“You know boring. My cousin and I just went to Woodfield and to a place called Durty Nellies. Too many punk looking kids there. They just don’t know what’s up. You know what I mean?” She said.

“Yeah. It’s the suburbs.” I said trying to play along.

“Right!” She laughed.

“Oh, I heard from Charlotte that there was some kind of skinhead brawl outside the donut shop last night. I guess someone fired a gun. Word is Jason and Rusty were involved.”

“Really? I guess it was a good thing that I wasn’t down there last night.” I said.

“I know, right?” She said.

“I’ll have to ask Jason about it tomorrow at school.” I said.

“I miss you.” She said.

“I miss you too.”

“I want you…inside me.” She said in almost a whisper.

“Yeah…” I said.

“Uh-Huh.”

“Well, next weekend I’ll grant your wish.” I said.

“I’m looking forward to it, stud.” She said.

“I’ll talk to you later tonight.” I said.

“Ok, babe. Love ya. Bye.”

I sat on the bed for a second and immediately decided to call Anna to tell her about our conversation. She couldn’t talk long, but filled me in on everything. She also expressed her distaste for Jenny.

“Durty Nellie’s boring? And this comes from the poser who couldn’t tell the difference between speed and ecstasy? Please.” Anna said.

“Yeah, she had a very ‘boring’ weekend.” I said.

“And so did you.” She laughed at her own sarcasm.

“Right. By the way, I got to tell Max that the shit he gave me was nasty.”

“I never touch Spirityus. All the boys in my life swear by it“ Anna said.

“Violet was relieved that you all were still in Medusas.” I said.

“Yeah. Max got us all and we went right to the Addison bus to get home after that. I heard it got nasty. Fucking cave people I swear.” Anna said.

“I hope Jason and Rusty are all right?” I said.

“That’s a scene I want no part of. I hope Jason is not stupid about it.” She said.

“Yeah. He’ll fill me in tomorrow. “ I said.

“Gotta go, mother’s calling. See you at school.” She said.

“Bye.” I said.
