Becoming Cool

The excitement was building as Jenny and I rode the Belmont bus going east. While she was blabbing away about one of her friends, I noticed a younger punk getting on the bus. We both looked toward each other and made eye contact. He must've been dressing this way for a long time, and he looked like a freshman. I was pretty sure he went to Lane. One of his friends got on the bus a few stops later and they both looked in our direction again.

“See, the young kids want to be like us.” She said with a smirk.
“Or I look like a retard.” I said.
“ You look fine. This is what you've wanted for a while.” She said.
“ I know, I just don't want to look stupid.” I said.
I picked up my camera and focused toward the front of the bus. They were only a handful of people occupying the bus at the time. I always had my camera with me. Photography was one of the things I cared about. My parents thought of it as a nice hobby, but it's something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I was in the photo club at school and I hoped to go to art school after I graduate. I clicked off a couple of shots and the two punk kids noticed me. I got a little nervous, but they both started to get my attention and I took a couple of pics. I figured it was harmless.

“See, they want you to photograph them, you're already becoming cool.” Jenny said.
“You got to be brave to dress that way.” I said.
“You're brave too.” She said while giving me a kiss.
Then a heard a voice say
“Shove your tongue down her throat!”

Apparently one of the two punk kids were harassing us, but I found it more humorous than insulting. Jenny just laughed it off.
