Boom!

It was the fourth of July and my parents were having a barbecue in our backyard. They were singing and laughing and playing the Mexican music they grew up with. Meanwhile, my friend Rusty and I were lighting off fireworks in the alley.

"Holy shit dude, did you see that lid go flying?" Rusty said after his M 80 blew off a trash can lid.

"Don't get so close. I don't wanna have to take you to the hospital." I said.

"Check this out ." Rusty said lighting a Roman candle. " Whoa!"

"Nice!" I said.

"Man, your cousin gets some great shit from Indiana." Rusty said.

"Yeah, he's our hookup." I said.

"Hey, Luis-- thumbs up on the fireworks!" Rusty shouted.

"No problem bro, just don't blow your fucking hand off." He laughed.

"Or your face." I said laughing.

"Or my nuts." Rusty laughed grabbing his crotch.

Rusty walked over to the boombox and flipped the cassette. We were listening to the Clash since we obviously didn't want to listen to what my relatives were listening to. Just as we were talking, David was walking down the alley with his girlfriend Jenny. They were walking back to her house .

"Whats up guys!" David said.

"Dude!" Rusty said running up and high giving him.

"Hi David, Hi Jenny. How's your holiday been?" I asked.

"It was cool. Jenny and I spent the day swimming in my pool and eating my dads burgers." He said.

"Well, you were eating the burgers. I was having your moms salad since I'm watching my weight for the modeling shoot." She said.

"Anyway, but it was cool." David continued.

"M 80, clear the fucking deck!" Rusty said as he dropped another one in the dumpster.

The loud boom seemed to freak out Jenny while David cracked a smile and thought it was cool. 

"Jesus, be careful! You're gonna hurt yourself." Jenny said to Rusty.

"I'm all right." He laughed as he sat down on the lawn chair by the garage.

"Well, we just were passing by and thought we'd say hi. I got to get Jenny back to her house." David said.

"Safely." She said looking at Rusty.

"Ok then, thanks for stopping by, I'll call you tomorrow or something. Maybe you came come over and play some Nintendo?" I said.

"Sure. I don't have work until six tomorrow." David said.

"Well, we'll see you all later." Jenny said as she practically shoved David along.

"Later guys." David said as he looked at Jenny slightly annoyed. You could see that they were bickering as they were walking away. I looked at Rusty and rolled my eyes. Rusty walked over to me and started to give me the jerk off gesture.

"God she's so fucking frustrating!" Rusty said.
